The wrestling season typically runs from about November through March each year, with some various other opportunities (clinics, tournaments, etc.) occurring during the off season. Below is an explanation of the different events that occur during the season:
Practices
Practices will occur anywhere from 2 times (Elementary Raiders Blue) to 5 times (High School Varsity) a week. Practices usually consist of a warm-up (running, stretching, etc.), work on specific wrestling skills with a partner, and then usually some form of "live wrestling" where wrestlers try to put the skills they have learned into action.
Dual Meets
The Middle School and High School teams will compete in dual meets, typically with teams in their Section. At those meets, both Varsity and Junior Varsity wrestlers will typically receive matches. Weigh-ins will occur on the day of the dual meet. How the Varsity team does in these meets will determine the team's seeding placement in the Section Dual Meet Tournament.
Tournaments
For Varsity and Junior Varsity wrestlers, competing in Tournaments throughout the season will be required. Junior Varsity Tournaments typically allow the team to bring more than one wrestler per weight class. Varsity Tournaments only allow the teams to bring one wrestler per weight class (determined by wrestle offs).
End of Season
For the High School Program, the season culminates in a Class AAA Section 3 Tournament, which includes approximately 12 teams from the area. Wrestlers have the ability to qualify for the WPIAL Championships, which can then allow them to qualify for the Pennsylvania State Championships.
